Feeding our children

Helping our young ones choose good healthy foods. Teaching them how to cook and fend for themselves. How important is this. I think if we start while they are young then their taste buds will get used to the food they are brought up on. It's the same with most foods, our tastebuds are trained to eat the foods we think we enjoy but are we brave enough to make a change and train them to eat healthier options and therefore train our children's tastebuds whilst they are growing to be used to the better options.

When I had my first child I brought her up on lots of vegetables. I would blend vegetables to a puree in my little baby blender for my daughter. She loved it all. Real potatoes, carrots, broccoli, sweet potato etc all blended up. Good healthy food. It was all such a good start for her then she grew into her toddler stage and was still eating the healthy options but one day I gave her chicken nuggets from the freezer and that's all it took, one simple day. She loved them. A whole new taste, then fish fingers and chips etc etc. Her tastebuds had been trained to eat and enjoy vegetables until this dreaded day I introduced her to the so called 'freezer food' just for a day off from cooking. After this all she wanted was chicken nuggets, stopped eating the lovely vegetables on the side. I think what we eat when we are younger is really important because it trains us in our food choices we make when we are older.
